Watercolor Beyond the Obvious

Are your paintings just like all the others you have seen?  Do they lack that ‘personal statement?’  Do you have any ideas of what or how to paint without a model or photo?  Or, if you do have a photo from which to paint, do you know what you would change . . . . .or how you might change it to make an extraordinary painting from it?

Are you feeling stuck?  Do you know where to reach to come up with new ideas?

Painting is about much, much more than things and places that we can identify.  There really is an underlying visual language that you can learn to “speak” to create visual poetry.

This workshop will give you the foundations you need for the breakthroughs you have been seeking and to open avenues to your thinking to go beyond the obvious or to access the extraordinary.

A week of painting and taking the challenges of this class will awaken your thinking and open doors to creative pathways to assist you in making highly personal painting statements.  This workshop reaches beyond techniques and how to paint objects or places.

Classwork is based upon introducing an understanding and fluency with the elements and relationships of design.  Daily informative and revealing lectures, demonstrations and painting challenges will get you unstuck and looking forward to creating new and different artwork.  Among the subjects covered in this workshop, you will be introduced to:
  • Using a subject to begin a personal design
  • Understanding harmonies of color, value and shape
  • Raising mundane subjects to make extraordinary paintings
  • Truly understanding the meaning of Painting Relationships
  • Developing the means to seriously critique your own work
  • Learning what your “style” really is . . . .you may be surprised.

Join us for exciting and challenging week !
